The Northern Parula is a pretty little warbler that breeds in eastern North America from southern Canada to Florida. During the winter, it can be found in southern Florida through northern Central America.
Now that it's migration season here in Maryland, we've seen and heard plenty of Northern Parulas. They tend to be a little shy, though, so it's not often that they'll come down close enough for a good photo. Northern Parulas have mainly gray upperparts and a yellow breast shading into a white belly. Breeding males have blue and red breast bands and white eye crescents.
