The Osprey is a beautiful, fish-eating bird of prey. They are large
birds and are brown on top with a mostly white/grey head and
underparts. I didn't realize this, but Ospreys can be found on all
continents except Antarctica. Ospreys breed in the northern parts of the
U.S. and Canada, as well as the east and west coasts of North
America. During the winter, they can be found in Texas, Mexico, and
farther south.
We were lucky to see several Ospreys
on our trip to Puerto Rico very actively fishing in a marshy lagoon.
They would hover over the water, searching for a meal, and then suddenly
dive down to grab it in their talons. We also see Ospreys fairly
regularly in Maryland, especially the closer you get to the coast.
