Day 125: Glossy Ibis

The Glossy Ibis is a strange looking, but beautiful bird that can be found in the warm regions of Central and South America, the Caribbean (we saw several in Puerto Rico), southern Europe, Africa, Asia, India, and Australia. In North America, it is restricted to eastern regions from New Brunswick through Florida and Louisiana.

During our visits to Maryland's eastern shore, we often see large flocks of Glossy Ibis. They like to feed in very shallow water and eat a wide variety of food (bugs, crustaceans, fish, etc.). Breeding adults have reddish-brown bodies and shiny dark green wings.
