Day 136: Indigo Bunting

The Indigo Bunting is one of my favorite birds to see, because the males are just gorgeous. They are small, seed-eating migratory birds that can be found from southern Canada to Florida during the breeding season and from Florida to northern South America during winter.

During the summer, male Indigo Buntings are a vibrant blue. In the winter, males turn a brown color, and females are brown year-round. They have a very complex song, and it sometimes takes us a while to realize that it's an Indigo Bunting singing when we hear it.
