Day 226: Burrowing Owl

On the first day of our trip to Colorado, Jared and I made a stop in the Pawnee National Grasslands, an area in the northeast corner of the state. We really wanted to find a Burrowing Owl, among other things, and were very lucky to find one close to the road!

Something caught my eye as we were driving, and I yelled at Jared to stop the car. After taking a look, we realized a little Burrowing Owl had popped up above his hole. We didn't want to scare it, so we only took photos from a distance. It was very cute, though, and you can see his bright yellow eyes staring back at us.
