Day 156: Rusty Blackbird

The Rusty Blackbird breeds north to the tree line in forests of Alaska, Canada, and the northeastern United States. They winter farther south in the U.S., where they can be seen from Texas to the east coast.

Adults are black with pale yellow eyes, and the "rusty" refers to brownish winter plumage. They have brown, rust-colored edgings on upperbody feathers in fall and winter. They forage on wet ground or in shallow water, mainly eating insects and fish.
