The Black-capped Chickadee looks very similar to the Carolina Chickadee, which I posted about at the beginning of the year. Luckily, there is very little overlap between the two species, and it's possible to know which chickadee you're looking at simply by the geographic location. The Black-capped Chickadee can be found from coast to coast in the northern parts of the U.S. and southern Canada. They also live at high altitudes in the Appalachian Mountains, so we were able to see several in western Maryland.
