The Common Tern is a seabird that can be found around the world. Its four subspecies breed in temperate and subarctic regions of Europe, Asia, and North America. It is a strongly migratory bird, wintering in coastal tropical and subtropical regions.
Breeding adult Common Terns have light grey upperparts, white
underparts, a black cap, orange-red legs, and a narrow pointed bill. We saw some Common Terns a few weeks ago on a visit to Maryland's eastern shore.
