Day 192: Purple Martin

The Purple Martin is the largest North American swallow. Adult males are entirely black with a glossy bluish purple shine. Purple Martins breed throughout temperate North America. They make nests in cavities, either natural or man-made. People will often put up houses for Purple Martins to live in. My Aunt Janice and Uncle Jerry recently told me about the beautiful Purple Martins inhabiting a bird house on their ranch in Texas. I wish I could visit them to get some better photos. The pictures below are taken close to the eastern shore in Maryland.
