Day 68: Yellow-rumped Warbler

Each fall, countless Yellow-rumped Warblers migrate from Canada south to winter in the U.S. As one of the most common warblers in North America, their sheer numbers make them a little annoying to birders.

When Jared and I are out trying to spot a rare or uncommon bird, its sometimes hard to pick out anything other than Yellow-rumps. Bushes and trees are full of the cute brown and yellow birds and their distinctive chirps.

Birders sometimes fondly (or not-so-fondly) call this bird "Butter Butt" because of the bright yellow patch on its rump. During the winter, Yellow-rumped Wablers are pale brown, with the yellow rump and usually some yellow on the sides.
