Day 283: Clay-colored Sparrow

Happy first anniversary to my wonderful husband! I thought today would be a good day to share a cool, rare Maryland bird that Jared found, the Clay-colored Sparrow. We were birding in one of our favorite parks a few weeks ago, Wheaton Regional Park (pretty near our apartment). We were getting ready to head home, but Jared noticed a big flock of Chipping Sparrows and decided to look a little closer. Soon, he realized there was a Clay-colored Sparrow mixed in with the flock! This is a great find for Maryland, since this species breeds in the central United States (Great Plains states) and Canada and winters in Texas and farther south.

So, cheers to one year of happy marriage, and one great find by my awesome husband, Jared!
